Angry Smog issue

Very soon after battery died, it was time to get smog cert. I have driven over 800 miles and Cat won't complete for smog. I disconnected and reconnected battery to restart process because of cat issue 2 days ago. I have tried driving 55 mph on freeway and also 30-40 mph on streets per drive cycle suggestions. Cruise control and ac on during initial drive. While doing the initial drive cycle, the Temp Control toggle button stopped working and got stuck on freezing temp. Took to dealer and they said cost to fix almost $2,000, source is junk yard and not sure it"s working part. They set it at 74 degrees and said don't touch it. I noticed after battery reconnection this time it is now set at 75. Not sure why. But main issue is Cat is incomplete for smog. Everything else is fine.

Year of car?

Disconnected the battery will reset all self-tests and the test process will start all over.

Completing the tests is a function of drive cycles rather than miles. Drive cycle is start up car engine which could mean cold, drive (usual a combination of suburb and hwy) and turning off engine. Toyota has published specs for the year of car for the various test drive cycles.

The dealer didn't check to determine what tests had not yet been completed?

Many ODBII scanners can read out what emissions test are complete and what are not. There are more checks than just the converter.

The cars climate issue may require taking the cars dashboard out but don't know

2005 Camry Solara, SLE
OBD shows Cat Incomplete all other ok. I have beem driving hwy and streets. Just disconnected and reconnected battery to start over drive cycle. Initial drive has been hwy and street just once. I will drive more. I get all kinds of cycles suggested. 55 on freeway for miles, start and let come up to temp before driving, 30-40 mph and let it coast to stop (difficult to do).

The check engine light needs to off to complete the readiness test.

There needs to be no emissions trouble codes stored.

Start engine and let it warm up.

Drive between 40 and 70 mph for 10 minutes.

If the readiness checks do not complete extend test.

Notes:

The test will not complete if the vehicle is driving at an absolute constant speed such as with cruise control.

In the event the drive pattern is interrupted (such as traffic) it can be resumed.

Avoid sudden changes in vehicle speed or load such as going up/down hills or sudden acceleration.

Some OBDII scanners can check for readiness or a low cost tool such as below:

Ready Scan Readiness Monitor Tool | Readiness Monitors | OTC Tools
