Default Help with exterior (grandpa's 03 Camry).

Hi all,

My grandpa is moving and wants me to sell his Camry for him (Garaged, 90K miles, sunroof) but he has really really banged it up by scraping the side of the garage many many times. The car runs great but I need help determining what is worth repairing if I am to get a decent price. Mechanically, everything seems fine and the car drives great.

I don't know too much about cosmetic stuff and was wondering if you could help us out.

Check out the gallery to see pictures of its condition: https://imgur.com/a/0hZTe

Thank you

Yes, the old "touch" method of parking. Have seen much worse.

Suggest first to do an appraisal at the Edmunds site below:

https://www.edmunds.com/appraisal/

Note the differences in price based on the cars condition. You may find there is not a lot of price difference between cars in average and poor condition. Putting a lot of money into a car to improve its condition may not be worth it.

Also check local prices of cars at sites like Craigslist.

Bumper covers are low cost. However unless you find a used one of the same color, it will need to be painted. Unless having the right equipment and skill you will never match the paint job to the rest of the car. Not sure what a body shop would charge to paint a new bumper.

Is that blue house paint or car primer? If house paint suggest reading up on removing it perhaps with a MILD solvent or clay bar.

The internet is full of suggestions. Take note the car has clear coat you don't want to also remove in the process.

The dealer or a auto yard may have the missing lock cover piece but you may need to paint using touch of paint of the correct color (check auto parts stores).

The rest of the body issues would leave alone.

Most people buying this car just want reliable transportation. If your grandpa kept up the car and perhaps has the service records to back this up, this would be a plus.

I agree if there is no frame damage and its superficial this car will still sell. It's a reliable vehicle plus the scraps are all at very low speeds so less likely internal damage. My dad had a good car and as he got older kept wacking the gutter as he backed out but it was a solid car.
