I'm trying to research on window tinting, my state's law is 70% must pass through. I clearly have no idea what to look for and have been trying to get references from people in my area. What questions can I ask what price range can I be looking at to do the rear windows only?

You may also want to check what percentage is allowed for reflection...and if you didn't already, I would highly recommend getting a copy of the regulation; don't just take someone's word.

Keep in mind that your stock windows have a slight tint to them already. So, for example, if you installed a 30% tint, you'd actually end up with 37% or 45% (or whatever) light blocked (I learned this the hard way). The tint place will be able to tell you what percentage each of their films is, and they'll likely be familiar with local laws as well. I was able to go to the police station and borrow their tint-checking tool. If you don't know your stock shade %, you may want to try this.

I'm not familiar with prices in RI, but if you're only adding tint to one window (and don't have to remove any old/previous tint?), it should be pretty cheap. Check with local places because you'll have to decide which tint you want (color, % shade, brand, reflectivity, etc.) and schedule a time to bring it in for the work anyway. This way, you'll also be able to recon their shop to get a feel for their level of professionalism. And, as with anything else, lower price could mean lower quality workmanship.

Other things I learned the hard way: the material in the reflective tint is metallic and interferes with radio reception when the defroster's on and the window's wet. Because of the adhesive used, removing the film will damage the defroster wires.
