2002 camry xle not starting
Hello! My friends 2002 xle has these conditions; when key is inserted there is click sound from fuse/relay compartment and nothing else happens. The battery has been fully(100%) charged w/posts cleaned, starter relay replaced, starter spun tested and passed, all other fuses have been checked and ok. When key is turned, no sound, no crank, basically as if no battery is connected at all and no lights on the dash gauge, no power to; radio, clock, power window, moon roof. But yes power to, power seat, power trunk, all interior/exterior lights. The automatic transmission shifter is locked in park mode and have to use manual override button to release, every time you shift to park position it locks up again. any ideas would help me greatly. thanks.

Most likely the battery, starter, starter relay and starter solenoid are OK but the starter relay may not be getting power.
Have you checked the fuses behind the drivers side ash tray/coin box on the lower lower dash board, specifically the AM1 fuse?
In the engine compartment fuse box recheck the AM2 fuse.
These 2 fuses power the starter circuit among others.
Power to the working circuits bypasses these fuses (and ign switch) but needs to go through a couple of fusible links also common to the starter circuit. Given the working circuits listed assume these links are OK.
This also leaves open the possibility the ign switch is bad but this is rare. The ign switch is two switches in one having two separate circuits powered by two separate power sources (AM1 and AM2 fuses).
Both of these sources power the starter relay. AM1 fuse powers the solenoid coil, AM2 sends power through the relay switch when closed to power the starter solenoid.

Hello everyone! Against my wishes, my friend had his car towed to independent shop near by his house. The shop told my friend it was the starter after all and charged him $299.00 for the starter plus the labor. He told the shop that we took the starter off the car, had it tested at the O'rielly auto part shop and witnessed test machine show "passed" label. The local repair shop man told my friend that some time the starter tests different when it is on the vehicle. How does bad starter explain no power to dash, power window, radio, moon roof and locked automatic transmission shifter???
Also thank you very much for response by the senior member on this matter. Yes I did check AM1 and AM2 fuses and they were OK at the time. thanks.

Yes! The car works fine now. I still don't understand about the starter test could show different result from on or off the vehicle, nor does bad starter showing previously mentioned symptoms. I keep thinking I missed some sort of semi master fuse or relay that was not in the fuse compartment by the battery or one under the dash below the steering wheel. thanks.
