Default 1988 camry no spark/fuel

hi i have a 1988 camry 2litre 5speed with 210xxx miles that i got from a friend for 100dollers. He said he thot it needed a fuel pump so i planned to change it but found it was good, just was not getting power from the car. So i looked for bad fuses relays even bridged the b+ to fp on the diagnostic box but still did not get power to it. So i just wired it right to the battery and put a switch on it. I got it working and have great fuel pressure now, but when i went to start the engine it just cranked and i got no fire, so i checked the spark and there was none. I have not done any ign check list yet as i have not had time. I noticed that the flap that opens and closes on the air intake hose (maf i am guessing) does not work either of course i had that off of the intake when i was trying to start the car however it was still plugged in to its harness. Does it have to stay on the engine to open? So i am guessing i have some king of major electrical problem hopefully a fuse or a relay. Also the fuel pump would never kick on even when i had the engine cranking and the other electrics on the car such as automatic seat belts lights and dash work i was not sure if they were connected with the failing parts power sources so i figured i would add that. Thx for your help

Did you get the files sent?

The MAF switch controls On/Off operation of the fuel pump once the engine starter motor stop cranking. It has nothing to do with the ign system. Your fuel pump switch bypass should have taken the MAF switch out of the loop.

The issue is now the ign spark.

Suggest taking a close look at the wiring for open or short circuits.

Thanks for the files 1 of the files are the same as mine but the other 2 are different, the one i got was a download torrent file. When you say i should look for shorts which wires should i start with and is it important that i have a maf or can i run without one.

The car needs the MAF sensor to regulate the fuel mixture and have the engine operate properly. For this MAF sensor has an additional sensor device inside that does this and is connected to the computer.

You already jumped the switch for the fuel pump thus the vane switch is not needed.

Look for problems where the mice damaged the wires.

I couldn't find any problems with the mice eating my wires. I also checked the ignition coil by using an ohm meter and it read the correct amount of ohms i think. I wasn't very sure how to read it,i know its a lousy excuse.I know im getting power to it tho so does that rule out bad wireing. Also the timing belt is good cause the rotary button was turning. So i think i am going to have my dads coworker help me with it, he seems to know a lot about older Camrys.

Sounds good. Suggest having the diagnostic info sent to you available when you dad friend looks at the car.

Have the info in the files sent to you available when troubleshooting.
