Hey, I'm posting this for a neighbor with a 2001 camry. He says that the car won't shift out of 1st until 5000rpm. Once it's in 2nd, it behaves normally for future shifts.

I noticed the tranny fluid was pretty brown and a little low and recommended a fluid exchange. For the time being, she's topped up with fluid with no results.

I don't think the check engine light is on. Would there be codes set without the light being on?

It doesn't slip in gear or anything like that. Just refuses to upshift out of 1st until 5k. Speedometer works.

I'm about to do some searching, but wanted to get some exposure as soon as possible. Thanks
