Red face '95 Camry Check Engine problem driving me mad.

I have a 1995 Camry 2.2i (RHD 4door Saloon UK model) which is showing the Check Engine warning light.
Looking through the Forum there are many Threads covering this; and there are many You Tube movies showing howto - but I can't find one that actually works on my car.
Linking E1 and TE1 on the Diagnosis socket DOESN'T make my Check light flash the code...it just carries on flashing all the time.
A couple of years ago I had this problem, and I found out how to do it, but I've forgotton the exact proceedure. I know it sounds stupid, but trust me, this is genuinly what I can remember:-
First, link E1 and TE1 on the Diagnosis socket.
Second, depress the brake pedal 4 times (I think).
Third, turn Ignition key to ON.
(2nd and 3rd may have been reversed). Now when I first read this, I laughed out loud....but something like this worked!!! The Check Engine light started to flash the fault code.
Does this ring a bell with anyone?

Thanks for looking.
Oh, and where on earth is the EFI fuse that I need to pull to clear the fault code... detaching the negative battery lead doesn't work for me.(I even left it off for 24hrs!)

Connect the terminals.
Turn ign switch on.

Fuse is in an engine compartment fuse box, left side.

Thanks for looking.
Unfortunately this doesn't work ... Check Engine just goes on flashing normally.
Thanks for the fuse info. My Haynes mentions the fuse but then says no more about it. Couldn't even find it on the wiring diagrams.
