Hi,

I recentlypurchased a 99 Model Camry LE. The car has a dealer installed keyless entry system. I didnt get the remote from previous owner. I want to get a remote but need to find the ECU to determine if its a black box or gray box. Tried looking under the driver seat and the dash on driver side with no luck.

I realize that you're asking about a 1999 MY (model year); however, here is a discussion involving a Toyota master tech. regarding an ECU in a1997 MY. I am thinking that, since the 1997 and the 1999MYs are of the same generation, that Toyota didn'trelocate the ECU in the 1999 MY. Please read that conversation,investigate it on your car, and reply here with your findings. Thanks.

 

Wireless door remote box ECU appears to be behind the center console above the center airbag sensor.

Theft deterrant ECU appears to be passengers side far upper corner behind dash.

MIght also check passengers side kick panel.
