2002 LE V6 3.0 automatic. I bought the car with no alarm system, new in Dec '02. It does have stability/skid control. At least on 1 occasion, when I was loading the trunk with something and I also had the doors open and closed ( forget what the exact sequence), the horn sounded an alarm until I stopped it, ( again, forget exactly how, using key or fob?). Has anybody experienced the same? And is there some built in security that I don't know of? ThereIS a red blinking security light in the dash. What conditions would set off the horn?

 

Are you sure there is no alarm, check for a separate horn.

 

I thought that red light was the Engine Immobilizer - all gen 5 V6 has that I believe.

You are probably right. I checked by locking the car with the window down. After a couple of minutes, I reached infrom outside and opened the door. No horn went off. So there is no alarm installed. But I am still baffled what set it off that one time.

hey man, the same kinda thing happens to my 2002 xle v6. Some days, when the car is sitting in the garage, the alarm (lights and horn) will go off. ITs totally random, nothing spooked it, no cats jumping on it or anything, its just sitting there and the alarm goes off. Then 1 hr later it happened again. The lights are turned ALL the way back to the off position... took it to the dealership, they didnt know what was wrong. IT stopped for a few months, then randomly started again today, but we havent changed anything... anyone have any ideas?

 

ok i don't know if you guys have this, but my '05 has a panic button on the keyless remote. My camry also has no anti-theft alarm but when i accidentally push that button the horn and lights go off. So it might be the that.
