Default 2007 Camry Engine Removal

I had my 07' Camry throw a rod and have no experience working on engines, my mechanic said he could put in an engine for me if I bring one in. Local junkyard has a few Camrys in the same year ranges but i would have to pull the engine myself. They supply a hoist and A frame, but I do not know what tools I would need to make sure I bring. Are there any good videos on how to remove the 2.4L engine? And what preferred tools would I need with me.

Suggest you obtain some service info before starting the job.

Toyota has a website where for $20 one can have access to Toyota service information for 2 days.

https://techinfo.toyota.com/techInfo...a.com%3A443%2F

Toyota service manuals will specific what tools are needed down to the socket or wrench size and outline each task needed in what order needed in detail.

Haynes and Chilton have manuals that will cover the job but in less detail. Amazon, Ebay and auto parts stores sell them.

A manual might specific removing the transmission but others have removed the engine without doing so. If you need to remove the trans you will need a LARGE socket for the axle nut and a LARGE breaker bar as the nut is installed a high torque valve. If the car is still sitting on its tires do this job then. Have needed to use a 3/4 drive setup with a cheaper bar here.

You will need a jack and jack stands to get under the car to disconnect the torque converter (do this first) from the flex plate.and trans housing bolts. Make sure the A frame can move on the ground in case the engine needs to be moved one way or the other first to take out. The engine may need to be tilted up at one end to pull it way from the trans. The engines crank will need to be rotated by hand thus the a tire needs to be removed to access and rotate the crank end bolt. This requires the right size socket for the balancer crank bolt, a LONG extension and a breaker bar, suggest all 1/2 inch drive.

YouTube has videos on engine removal.

Tool wise have the standard size sockets and wrenches plus extensions. Get a 3/8 to 1/2 inch drive adapter to use the 1/2 inch breaker bar for stock bolts and nuts. The exhaust system nuts may be frozen thus may need that 1/2 drive breaker bar and maybe a 6 point socket that will not strip the nut flats.

Harbor Freight has OK tools for cheap if needing a tool for a one time job and not wanting to spend any more on it..
