Default Compression Test

Ok, I have a 1993 Camry with the 3.0 V6. I did a compression test today because the person I purchased the car from said it needed a head gasket. There was no water in oil and I haven't seen any other leaks. I did a dry and wet test. The results of the dry were #1 155, #2 151, # 3 153, # 4 151, # 5 155, and #6 155. The wet test was #1 181, #2 178, #3 177, #4 182, #5 175, and #6 208.

Pretty consistent, but I was wondering what someone with experience with this engine might think?

I don't know why you were told that the engine needs a head gasket.... a brand new one off the showroom floor probably wouldn't do much better! Just to convince yourself, do a cylinder leakage (leakdown) test with the radiator cap removed.... if a head gasket is blown on any cylinder, when you put air to that cylinder bubbles will be seen in the radiator neck and coolant will be pushed out of the radiator.

cant say it has a head gasket problem on those figures

for example the1MZ-FE V6 spec is 178 psi (crank over speed )
and its cylinder compression variation allowance is 14 psi

if that engine has done a lot of mileage/ km .. I would be happy with 155 cold start

on your readings would say bit of leaky valve and a little worn rings on all

#1 155, #2 151, # 3 153, # 4 151, # 5 155, and #6 155
#1 181, #2 178, #3 177, #4 182, #5 175, and #6 208.
