tranny swap
1994 le, 2.2l 5sfe i4, auto tranny.
i drive it hard sometimes, and far once in a while (recently put 1500 miles on it in 2 days) so the trannies starting to wear out. Can i swap the auto for a e153 manual? seems like i should be able to but i wanted to check. Have any ideas what that'll cost me in parts/labor
thanks
EDIT:
Are there trannies that are off something newer that i can put on that will take a beating better. Im looking at putting in a turbo kit (couple years and a few grand down the road) and i want to have a tranny that can hold up.

You can replace an auto with a manual. This requires all the manual parts which is best done by finding a donor car.
The manual trans engine computer is also differant but this can be tricked out using auto shift solenoid units the simulate the trans.
If having a shop do the work, the labor costs will most likely will be high. A lot of parts needed to be removed and new ones installed. If going this route suggest finding anothe car with a manual.
If DIY, the costs are more reasonable, again find a donor car and strip it off all parts needed.
For a more detailed review suggest doing a search on www.toyotanation.com as some members have posted their experiences included a list of required parts.
