Default 1996 Camry crankshaft bolt

Hi all, new to this forum. I've done a search but can't find a solution to this problem: I've got a 1996 Camry with a 4 cylinder engine. I need to replace the timing belt but cannot get the bolt out of the end of the crankshaft. The last thing I tried was a 3/4" impact. All I managed to do was break the 3/4 to 1/2 adapter. Does anyone have any idea as to how I can get this out? Can I heat it up? I don't mind replacing the crank seal if I need to. Thanks

I used the starter bump method. If you have a good 1/2 drive breaker bar with a 6 point socket or 6 point impact socket then it should work. Remove the spark plugs and set the bar against the floor so that when you bump the starter the nut will turn anti-clockwise and loosen. Your problem then becomes how to torque the nut back on. I had to make a tool that fit in the pin holes of the crank pulley to prevent it from turning. I've also heard that, with a helper, you can remove thestarter and use a large screwdriver in the teeth of the flywheel to prevent the crank from turning - this can work for removal or re-assembly, but I've not tried it.
P.S. Always replace the crankshaft seal.
