1999 camry idles 2000rpm
My camry was recently rearended - after the body work was complete the engine was vapor locked. After getting that fixed the engine idles about 2000rpms. the plug for a code reader under the dash doesn't work. Also the exhaust pipe turns glowing red after a few minutes. We have replaced the mass airflow sensor throttle control- now the dealership says they will not work on the car because some one else has.
Other then rear end body work what else was done to the car? The rear area has wiring for lights, emission EVAP system, etc.
Was the venting system for the fuel tank damaged or not repaired right. The fuel pump pushes full out of the tank, air needs to enter the tank via the EVAP system.
An engine intake vacuum leak could cause both high idle and a lean engine. The EVAP system has a hose running to the intake air system. Make sure there are no vacuum leaks or hoses that have become damaged or disconnected.
Have tried another code reader?
If more then one dealer in the area visit them or find a third party shop.
