2000 Camry 4cyl - Electrical Burning Smell
I have a 2000 Camry (102K miles), one family owned vehicle (my family).
When I bought the car 2 months ago from my Aunt, it quickly developed an issue with not starting. Turn key, acts like batt is dead. Replaced batt...same issue (75% of the time it seems).
I've been "ignoring" that issue lately with money being tight.
Tonight, driving home from work, the radio shut off (no power), lights inside and headlights were dimmed and batt light appeared on dash gauge. This lasted 1 mile or so. After I parked it at home, I smelled an electrical burning smell...No smoke, Quick pop of hood in bad lighting condition did not show anything obvious.
I am wondering if it is all related...Gas mileage is still very good, but the issue tonight has me wondering. I seem to have very bright lights at night, sometimes get flashed by other cars like my brights are on. The High beam lights are VERY bright (landing lamps). This may not be anything but worth mentioning.
Is this a alternator or Voltage Regulator issue? Maybe a bad starter or starter solenoid sticking in the closed position?
Something I should look for? Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks
Shane

I'd start with checking on alternator belt and replacing/adjusting as necessary. If it smells - it burns somewhere. Triple check all wires, as one may have intermittent grounding on chassis area, causing failure and arc, resulting in burnt insulation. Have my word, it will only get worse.

just had car towed to shop. Will not start, clicks and sometimes tries to turn over...smell seems like it is coming from Starter...New batt but also tried to jump...has plenty of juice.
We'll see, maybe starter?
Alt belt new (3mos old).
I'll post when I find out more.
Thank you for the reply!
