I have a 2001 Camry with a 2.2L engine and 162,000 miles that has a slow oil leak that seems to drip near the center top of the engine down onto the exhaust pipe. From looking underneath the engine, I can see a drip that forms on one of the intake bolts near the center of the engine and drips down onto to the flex pipe section on the exhaust. I felt sure that it was coming from the valve cover so I replaced the valve cover gasket and spark plug tube seals but afterwards there was no change. Has anyone else had this same problem or any suggestions?

I would suggest to have it underwash then observe where the leak is coming from but i think the culprit would be the oilpan gasket

 

Hi, I'm having oil leak issues as well. I replaced the valve cover gasket and spark plug tube gaskets. Oil leak is better, but still there, I've heard of gaskets that need to be replaced behind the timing belt cover, can anyone point me to the right thread? I'm looking here but can't find anything.

Feel, smell and observe oil to determine if its engine, trans/power steering oil. Trans/power steering oil (the same fluid) starts out as red in color but turns black with usage.

If it is engine oil:

There are dyes that can be added to engine oil that will glow under black light to add in finding the leak.

Place cardboard or such under the engine after driving to catch any leaking oil. The location of the oil will aid in locating the leak. Places to look for engine leaks are:
***Engine oil cooler behind oil filter.
***Bottom and firewall side of timing cover.
Oil pan gasket.
Possible oil pan plug if gasket is bad.

***When checking for leaks here also do so with engine running.

Could it be coming from the cam shaft and crankshaft seals. I have a small leak and since I am doing my timimg belt will change these. However, I also see oil residue in timing cover area. I will find out when I take apart. See my comments on removing timing belt from today.
