Default 2005 Camry - Front Catalyct problems

Hey forum,

A have a question. I'm just a regular guy with a 2005 camry le 4.2 engine I believe. Anyways, the "check engine" light came on. I took it to a Midas shop and they told me that the front catalyct converter needs to be replaced, otherwise it won't pass the smog check.

I'm in California - the car has 68k miles but the bad news for me is that it has a salvaged title. I recently found out about California emmision warranty, but of course, it won't apply since the car is salvaged.

I can't spent $1000 + to buy it straight from the dealer. Do I have any other option? The car seems to be running just fine. Thanks for any replies.

Did you get the code? You can take it to Advance, Auto Zone, Pep Boys, etc. to have them pull the code if you don't have it. Not sure about Midas as their business is replacing CATS, etc. so I'd look for a second opinion.
