If the Camry is going to fail the test and they repair the engine, there is going to be a warranty on the work that they have performed. Be sure to inquire about their warranty in regards to the work that they do, especially with a car with high miles. If they are replacing pistons, etc., then they are rebuilding the engine. A proper engine rebuild consists of many things in order for it to be done correctly. Ask them what gets replaced on this work. Do they check the bearings, etc.?

 

The TSB states the engine is warrantied for 60 mths or 60K miles after repairs. The TSB lists specific actions and parts to be inspected or replaced.

The pistons and rings are to be replaced. The rod bearings, piston pins and rods are to be replaced as needed. There is no reference to main bearings, assume the crank will stay bolted in the engine during repairs. The only mandated parts to be replaced are pistons and rings, gaskets, etc.

Actually getting a dealer to state an engine has excess oil consumption great enough for the TSB to apply is hit or miss. Doubt you will get any deals in terms of a discount on another engine as the dealer only gets reimbursed as per the TSB procedures and anything outside of this cost the dealer $$. Toyota was most reluctant to even admit there was a problem (redefining what normal oil consumption was), much less fix the problem.
