There would be a separate service bulletin for the software. Some fixes don't have a time so check.

Torque converter replacement or trans rebuild? Supposedly if the problem is not fixed the actual trans can have issues. If just the converter then its replacement cost should be much lower. The dealer is most expensive place to get repairs.

As recall Toyota did a slow motion on admitting there was a a problem then tried a software fix first. Apparently this was not enough or came too late thus the later torque converter replacement. There is some discussion as to if the software update worked well enough. The result being even if the shutter was noticed early and the software updated the problem might remain.

Search the internet for this problem and the cars transmission model. Model is on a sticker on the side of the drivers door. There should be lots of info out there and threads on this issue as it was at the time a major discussion for Toyota owners.

The issue may be Toyota's Flex Lock torque converter design. It apparently can partially locked up versus all or nothing.
