Default 93, 2.2 won't start

I just got a 93 from a friend. They said it needed a fuel pump, but both that and the relay work fine. After removing the distributor cap, we've come to find that the ignition rotor isn't spinning. I was told that this could potentially be the cam chain, but I assume you would probably hear that rattling around if that had broken. Any ideas on what could be the issue?

It sounds to me like you may have a broken timing belt. There is not a chain that I know of and the belt is rubber so it would not make a lot of noise.

As dpjarvis25 posts, if the rotor is not turning check for a broken timing belt. Take of the valve cover, if the cam is not turning the issue is a broken belt. Not too hard to replace. The autozone website at www.autozone.com has a self help repair section with photos on how to do this.

The autozone page doesn't give any specifics on adjusting the timing, but I've seen a few sites that say its as simple as putting the ignition rotor on the number one lead and then adjusting the crank to top dead center, but all the sites were pretty vague about how to do it. Does anyone know where I could find a good tutorial on how to do this?

No use trying to adjust your timing if the timing belt is broken.

Wait, so you're saying you can't adjust timing with a broken timing belt. Back it up for a second. I was under the impression that the car could EASILY be timed and drive RIGHT out of my garage with the timing belt completely ripped apart. I didn't think I even need to pull the broken timing belt off, let alone change it. Thank you SOOOO much for your insite Pedro. I don't think I could have completed this job without you.

ever so grateful,
