Default 93 LH door wont open from outside

I have a 1993 4 door camry and after hearing a small snap the door will no longer open from the outside. i took the door panel off and looked inside, the connection from the inside door handle still moves the opening mechanism but the outside one just moves not grabbing a hold of the mechanism. It looks like a rivet possibly broke that held the two together. Any ideas on how to do a quick fix or actually get into it?

Where is the break in the rod. You can remove the door handle easily enough.

I should be able to remove the handle but im pretty sure the break is past the handle ( as I have replaced it in the past). The break is actually in the connection where the rods combine ( from the inside handle and the outside), withing a plastic casing.
hope this helps your diagnostic.

There is typically a plastic tab that grips the rod while snapping over the joint that the rod attaches to. This keeps the rod in place.

If this tab has broken suggest finding another. Try a Toyota dealer, perhaps an autoparts would have them. The plastic parts do break often as people remove the door handle etc to access the speakers, etc.

Having been in this spot before no quick fixes that work. Might try wiring the parts together with safety wire. The fastest and best fix is another plastic part.
