Default 93 Toyota sw olny overheats when AC is running?

Just bought the car from an auto mechanics shop. I took it for a drive on the freeway AC was running the whole time as soon as I got into stop and go traffic thermostat went all the way to max hot! Pulled over let car cool down it was leaking brownish water. After the car cooled down I referred to the owners manual opened the hood the engine looked nothing like what was in the book the radiator reservoir and where you add the coolant was in two separate places so I just added water to the radiator reservoir and added water in the coolant reservoir as it was absolutely none dry the cap looked as it had popped off maybe from pressure? After it cooled down added water I noticed it was leaking so I called the mechanic he said bring it in. I didn't make it there mechanic towed away the car called next day said the radiator was leaking put in new radiator car runs fine no leaking but it still over heats but play when I am running the AC! I need AC I live in hawaii it's super hot and muggy! Just would like to know why it play overheats when the AC is on? And what would fix the problem other than that the car is ok it smokes out the exhaust a little...any suggestions

4 or V6 cylinder engine?

For now keep A/C off if temps start climbing toward the red or risk a blown head gasket.
