Hi there,
My engine light came on last week. Since then, I notice my idle is low when cold (about 800 as opposed to 1200 rpm). Any idea here? Also, does any one know any good, reasonable mechanic shop in O.C California?

Check engine light with a rough idle could be alot of things. Assuming there are no mod's to the vehicle i would first try to clean the MAF sensor the mass air flow sensor. I should be plugged into the box that contains your air filter

 

Try cleaning the throttle body and IAC valve. Alot of posts on this so i wont repeat it. As for the CEL, what mike said too, worth a try. And then disconnect the batery for a minute then reconect, and see i f the light stays out. If it comes back on maybe you should have the codes read.
