Default 99 Camry Tranny Problems

I'm having problems with my sister's Camry. It is throwing codes for the Type-B tranny sensor and Type-D tranny sensor. It basically free revs to around 3K RPM's then suddenly engages but jerks alot until it hits about 4500rpms. It does this through all gears except reverse. I doubt the tranny is fried so where exactly are this sensors on the tranny? Any help would be greatly apprieciated.

Need more information. What engine V6 or 4 cylinder, do you have the specific trouble codes, what condition is the trans fluid, clean or black and dirty?

The trans has 2 sensors and 4 electronic shift solenoids, are you confusing a sensor with a solenoid?

Sorry, it's a 4cylinder. I just changed solenoids 1 & 2 and it doesn't buck anymore but it still has to rev high before it will actually start moving forward in 1st,2nd, and Drive. I think the codes were P0770 and P0550?? The fluid was quite dirty but there wasn't any real metal shavings on the magnets in the pan.

BTW Is there any way to check the solenoids once they are out of the car? I'd like to see if there even bad if I start pulling some off the tranny.

I think in the service manual there is a way to disconnect the electronic likage to see if you canengage it manually. That is to say you put it in low and the second etc. this will enable you to see if there is something wrong with the tranny itselfor something electrically wrong. If it moved through the gears by placing it into each gear by hand then you really need to figure out where the solinoids are and sort out the elecrical aspects of the trans.Maybe that doen't help but it is a way to eliminate certain aspects of diagnosis
