Car Wont Start
Hey Guys, I have a 1995 Camry and the other day it just stopped working. I put the key in the ignition and switch it over and all the lights come on fine, radio, everything, but then I go to turn it over and nothing happens. No clicking, lights dont dim, and the starter doesnt turn, just a very faint whirring. I thought maybe it was the battery, tried to jump it but the jump didnt help at all, I tried jumping it from two different cars with two different sets of jumper cables and the terminals on my battery are both clean. It didnt seem like the battery in the first place though cause my car seemed to have a charge fine
Finally after about 4 hours of trying to figure out what was wrong with it, I noticed that every time I tried to turn the engine over, the emergency brake light came on. So I engaged the emergency brake, and the thing started right up, absolutely no problem. I didnt have much time to think about it because I had to be somewhere, and it worked fine for a couple of days. Then a couple of days ago I was leaving work and it happened again, so I put the emergency brake on, and it started right up, got home, turned the car off, go to get back in, same thing happens, so I engage that good old emergency brake and.. Nothing! Now the car just wont start at all. I dont know what it is, maybe a short somewhere causing it to not start or a bad sensor, but I need some help!

Just an update, I went to check the car this morning and it started right up.. No E brake, nothing, started right up fine. Of course still left it home because I dont want to get stranded anywhere. I did some more research and thought maybe it was the neutral safety switch. Does this sound like it could be the problem?

You're association with the Ebrake and your car not starting is just an unlikely coincidence. Do you have a 4 cylinder? Next time this occurs, try holding the key in the crank position- and have an assistant smack the starter a few times with a hammer. This will be completely accessible in the 4cylinder model. If it starts to turn over (remember you must be holding the key to the crank position) - then you have a failing starter. Very common problem.
