decrease idle rpm of engine?
1990 toyota camry V6. Did an overhaul of the exhaust system and oxygen sensors recently. However, while getting that done, the mechanic increased the base rpm of the throttle. Earlier the engine used to idle at 1000 rpm, now it does around 1200. How do I get my idle rpm back to 1000? Thanks for the suggestions.

On a car that old there may be an adjustment screw on the throttle body. Look where your accel cable connects to throttle body. Why would mechanic increase rpm? Even 1k rpm sounds too high, should be 750-800 unless you're trying to compensate for something.

I dont know why the mechanic did this... by nature I dont trust mechanics, except my neighborhood one (who has since closed down shop after he died and his son did not want to continue running a mom-and-pop tranny shop) but oh well! My throttle cable goes across from the left hand far corner across to the right hand (behind the battery) next to the vacuum manifold. I tried looking today but could not figure out. Would you be able to give me a bit more description (or maybe a picture if you come across one)/. I really appreciate your help.
BTW, what would the mechanic try to "compensate" by increasing the throttle? I am very curious now.
Thanks Pedro.
