If I understand:
1) add the hose between the radiator and the overflow container before doing anything else,
2) when all is said and done you want to end up with a mix of 50:50 antifreeze and distilled water.
Some antifreeze is prediluted with water, and is clearly labelled on jug, so this can be added straight.

Unless the engine was overheated or hot rodded head gasket failure is rare. Given a head gasket is a major repair suggest rechecking for leaks.

The upper and lower radiator tanks are plastic, can crack and have a very slight leak (at least at the start).

Check the water pump, rare for leakage but never know. Also the heater core, a coolant hose may be splitting-just enough to leak but not fail, the coolant overflow tank can start to crack, etc.

does the motor and exhaust guard have brown stuff on it like reside from radiator ? brown stuff is cooked anti-freeze..

if so radiator tank seal clamps are weak and water is leaking from the tank to aluminum-fins seams when plastic gets hot .

needs new radiator . 52.00 shipped on ebay

make sure you get curved oil cooler fittings ,,if the stock radiator one calls for it

takes about 15 minutes to change it out.

I guess you need to carry lots of water on the road to fill it up every time it loses water. :P

My '94 V-6 was doing that. The overflow tank would empty after about 20 miles. Worse in hot weather.

Turned out to be a bad water pump. They typically get noisy, so you can easily tell.
