My MAINT REQD just went on - Is it serious OR just routine Maintenance Required?

 

When you first start the car and for a few seconds all the warning lights come on to prove out the bulbs, is there a "Maint Reqd" AND a "Check Engine" light?

 

"MAINT REQ'D" MEANS YOU ARE DUE FOR AN OIL CHANGE. LIGHT WILL COME ON STEADY WHEN YOU HAVE REACHED EITHER 6 MONTHS OR 5K MILES FROM LAST TIME LIGHT WAS MANUALLY RESET. toyota has for all post-2000 vehicles recommended regular maintenace be performed every 5k miles. for the toyota camry it is pretty easy to reset light after oil has been changed. if you take the vehicle to your TOYOTA dealer for service then it should be reset every time they do that. if not and you take it to some quick lube that doesnt use GENUINE TOYOTA PARTS then you can do it your self. -
1) make sure your mileage(odomometer) reads your current vehicle mileage. not "trip a,b"
2) Cycle key in ignition to the "OFF" position.
3) Press and hold in the button on the dash that changes your mileage reading to the trip readings, DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON! UNTIL END OF PROCESS!
4)WITH FREE HAND TURN KEY IN IGNITION to "ACC" position. (all lights will be on on dash)
5) note the odometer screen will have straight horizontal lines countingf down then a row of "0000000" will show and your mileage will reappear. if maintenace light does not turn off, start off with odo screen on "TRIP A" and continue to step 2
