i just installed a rebuilt 2.2l in my 96 camry all seems well but once it warms up it smokes like a frieght train. it's not oil smoke but it does have an odd smell and only does this once the eng is warmed up. it has a code for cooling system malfunction also could they be related? any ideas what could be wrong?

Can you post the code number?

If you are sure it is not oil:

Check for a coolant leak into the engine.

Check for water in the oil, the oil may look like a brown chocolate malt.

Determine if the coolant level in the overflow tank is dropping.

Coolant in the exhaust might smell sweet. The engine may tend to overheat or blow coolant back into the overflow tank.

Coolant leaks can be caused by a cracked head, blown head gasket, perhaps some strange issue with the IAC valve (connected to the cooling system).

If coolant is coming out the exhaust it is getting into the engine, typically this is something serious.
