Hi,
I have seen this problem posted in several places but no answer. I must be fairly common and a good transission shop should have encountered it. Problem-> no reverse and in neutral car moves forward, gears 1-3 ok. The transmission is an h23 coupled to a v6 3.0. (92 camry wagon v6)

My guess is that a band or clutch pack is stuck. My question is which one and how to fix it. From what I have read this is a computer controlled tranny so could one of the control solenoids be stuck? if so the problem should identify which one. Do you know? Are the solenoids internal or external? Do you know which clutch or band is stuck? I can fix damed near anything but I need to know what I am doing first. I do not want to pull and rebuild this thing if I can avoid it. If it is possible to repair it while in the car I would love to know what you know.

Is the trans an A540E or H?
