Default Replacement key

I recently purchased my first ever Toyota so please excuse this remedial question. I bought a 2001 Camry but theres only 1 key. I need a second key and see i can purchase replacement transponder keys on Ebay and was hoping someone can tell me if those will work.

Alos...if i buy a key off ebay will a locksmith be able to cut the key from the key i have? Thanks again.

Is this a master key or valet key?

A locksmith can cut the key. However the transponder will need to be programmed to the ECU. If not programmed the engine will not start.

It was the master key and it can't get cut by a car locksmith, so for that consider visiting the dealership.

Widen your search to those locksmiths who have the equipment and skills to do the job. Your local locksmiths may not.

If you can get the key cut you should be able to program it yourself.

Otherwise call a Toyota dealer and ask if they can make another key based on the cars VIN. Make sure you tell them you have the master key. The key may not be cheap.

After getting the key put it in a safe place. Replacing a lost master key is more trouble and expensive.

I agree whether you go for a locksmith or dealer, key isn't available at cheap.

Had one master key as well, had 3 ordinary keys cut just in case of locking myself out. I would not use them without the master-key in place, then again, it would be fun to test things out "famous last words".

What output you have got after testing it during lockout and have you called any locksmith to rescue you?
