Default ruptured engine oil line 2007 V6

I bought my camry 2007 June 2006.

A couple days ago I noticed my low engine oil light on. I had changed my oil 2 months ago. I had the mechanic look at it and evidently the tube that connected the engine oil was 1/2 aluminum and 1/2 rubber. It had broken at the aluminum-rubber junction. He replaced it with a full aluminum piece and changed the filter and changed the oil etc. Sorry I don't know enough about cars to describe it accurately. Anyway he was surprised by the crappy aluminum-rubber design.

My question is does anyone else have this problem? And also my car is under 30k miles, do I still qualify for the factory warranty or because it's over 36 months i'm SOL?

Thank you in advance

That hose was the Bank 1 VVT-I oil line. On Avalons and some Camrys for the last 3-4 years have had many problems. They started off with clamps that were just crimped and they would leak like crazy from the clamps. Then Toyota updated the lines to have spring clamps, and then they would leak from a small pinhole that would develop in the rubber part of the hose. About two weeks ago, Toyota finally released a SSC for the Bank 1 VVt-I lines that extended the warranty and made a recall out of certain vehicles. I recommend contacting your closest Toyota dealer and have them run you VIN. You may be entitled to reimbursement for the repairs.

Yep!! Toyota must have went to Ford on this dumb design when they were developing this engine. My parents had this problem on their 08 Camry.

This problem is nothing short of a scandal and they have known about it since 2005. They just issued a "recall" on limited numbers of Avalons and Rav4s and say they are "investigating" other vehicles that might be affected. The 2005 Avalon TSB acknowledges that this part is covered by the 60,000 drive train warranty.

Toyota is replacing seized engines left and right because when the oil line ruptures as opposed to just leaking, the oil drains out of the engine and destroys it. Had you driven one more mile or so, you probably would have had your engine seize up as well. They are also repairing oil lines even after the 60,000 mile powertrain warranty is up. One guy in the RAV4 forum has had TWO engines replaced over this issue.

Remember ..... since your oil went low enough to cause the oil light to come on, the damage done from running that low on oil might not show up for months .. or even years after the incident occurred. All dealers here in the Kansas City area are aware of the problem. The oil line problem is all over the globe. Toyota Australia has the problem. Avalons are shipped from North America to Saudi Arabia - and one poor fellow there got stranded out in the desert. Lots of problems in Canada.

Lexus ES350 with same engine does not have the problem because they have always used the all metal oil line. Toyota V6 in the Sienna, Camry, Avalon, Rav4, & Highlander had a manufacturing change April, 2008 to install the all metal oil line.

Default 2007 Toyota oil line ruptured and driveway ruined

Our 2007 Camry oil hose burst and totally leaked out on our driveway. Toyota fixed the oil line at no cost to us, telling us it was under recall, but notices weren't sent out. If we'd received a notice, our driveway wouldn't be ruined. Does anyone know if Toyota will reimburse us at all for the work involed in getting the driveway cleaned or replaced? We have an Association and they will not allow it to look like it does now - AWFUL!!

Thank you, Lauri

I doubt it. In the past Toyota was not even paying for the repairs and was charging owners. It was only when the problem (and number of complaints) increased that Toyota started paying for repairs.

Default 2007 Camry Ruptured oil hose replacement

After doing more online research, especially on Paul3637's separate thread, I called the local Toyota parts dept., and they confirmed that the replacement part #04009-33131, Kit, oil hose, #1 put on my Camry, is still a rubber hose. Unfortunately this is the part # listed on the letter I saw on Paul3637's site sent to the Toyota dealers by the manufacturer, as the proper replacement. I have a call into the Toyota service Dept. requesting a metal/aluminum hose. I am confident they will refuse and say they followed the guidelines. Our car has less than 30k miles, and the oil from the rupture ruined our driveway. We will be getting a new driveway down the road, and do not wish to have it ruined again by another oil hose rupture. Any ideas as to how to get Toyota to put a metal hose on the car? Thank you!!!
