Default timing belt question

I have a 2012 2.5L 4cyl. and my son has a 2008 2.4L engine. If the timing belt breaks does it damage engine? If the belt isn't changed at 100k miles, how long will it last? How much trouble are they to change?

a 2.5L or 2.4L engine doesn't have a timing belt , they have timing chains , timing chain inspection it's recommended by toyota at 100k , timing chain needed when chain it's stress out and produce a loud noise , if timing chain jumps more then 2 tooth it will cause internal damage to the engine , when timing chain it's off time check engine light will come on as well . a toyota engine with a timing belt, belt service it's recommended every 90k for 2004 or newer and every 60 k for 2003 or older only v6 engines timing belt are interference engines .
