transmission troubles

1994 toyota camry le v6. goes into park and neutral fine. slams into reverse and hesitates to go into drive. sometimes it takes a few minutes to got into drive.

Is the engine idle speed OK (around 850 rpm), not too high?

What is the condition of the trans fluid, red, dark, black?

i havent checked the idle yet , the fluid is in good condition. its a red.
