tranny troubles
ok i have a 1986 Toyota Camry DLX. just today, my automatic transmission started going back and forth out of 3rd and overdrive.....then finally it just didnt go into overdrive at all, it just stayed in third. it only seems to do this after the car gets warm and is drove for a while. is there a solenoid that controls the shifting? if there is, which one? if not, then what could be the problem? thanks for ur help in advance guys.

RE: tranny troubles
no i haven't had the tranny flushed since i have had it. i have only had it for 6000 miles. however, it is kinda brown colored. i have had many shops say not to flush it because it could cause gunk to break loose and make the transmission perform worse. i don't know if thats true or not, but thats what i heard. i am getting it looked at by a transmission place next monday. they think it is something electrical, perhaps the computer or a sensor of some sort that could be causing the transmission not to shift into overdrive sometimes. what do u think it is and what should be fixed? thanks in advance.

RE: tranny troubles
You should change your transmission fluid every 100k miles. If you don't change it within that time you shouldn't change it,so you heard correct. However, your having a serious problem with your tranny,I don't think changing the fluid could make it any worse,it can only make it better

RE: tranny troubles
Every 100K good god... Where I work its every 30k you do a trans service (new filter, gasket, and fluid) I would take it do a dealer an have them check it out and see how bad it is. Worst case scenario is that it gets overhauled.
