Question wear indicator clips?

I did a really long search for, If I really need those small clips that go on top of the brake pads, but could not find anything on, if I really need them, I tried to put the new ones on, and they just kept popping off time after time, i took a really good look at the brake pad when I was putting them in, and they seem to large to put in, I had just installed the new A1cardone caliper bracket, I am thinking that maybe the problem, so I just put the pads in without them. But do I really need them?

Are these Toyota pads and do you have the shims?

You don't need the clips.
