Default Abs

HI,
I acquired a used 2014 (and a half) Camry SE from Hertz in August it had about 35000 miles on the clock.
Car runs fine, but has one thing that baffles me a bit.
When making a fast (not panic) stop the ABS kicks in! This has happened
about 7 times already so far always on dry roads!
It also seems that the left front locks up.
My old Saturn would rarely use the ABS unless I really stood on the brake pedal.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Rudi

Is the system operating when braking in a straight line with the steering wheel centered?

The ABS system monitors and compares the RPM of all wheels. It is also monitors steering wheel position, G-forces and a few other things. Based on these inputs it operates the braking system when required.

If one brake locks up. That wheel sensor may be sending an incorrect signal to the ABS computer compared to the others.

Inspect the left front sensor and tone ring (grooved ring about the axle). Look for debris, damage, improper spacing between the sensor and ring. Can compare the left side with the right and note differences.

If you have a OBDII diagnostic device that has ABS capability. You can compare ABS signals. You can also check the sensors output with a multi-meter and compare to others. The internet has information on this.
