fuel filter
#2
There may be a YouTube video, engine type 5SFE.
There is a sock filter in the fuel tank connected to the pump. A can shaped filter on the drivers side of engine compartment near firewall. To remove requires loosening the tube fittings. The fittings can be very tight resulting in damaged to the tubing or rounding over the fitting wrench flats when trying to loosen them. The crush washers will need to be replaced on the upper banjo fitting.
The filter seldom plugs up to need changing, symptoms include severe lack of engine power as in starving for fuel.

I'm not really sure what the problem is so I thought I would try the filter 1st. The car has been sitting for a week in the cold while we waited for a wiper motor to arrive. When I got the motor in and tried to start it all it does is fire and run for a second and then die. Anybody got any ideas? Thank you.

Look under hood around passenger or driver strut tower mounts for a small plastic box about 1 x 2 inches. Inside are electrical terminals. Use a section of electrical wire to connect the FP and B+ terminals. This will power the fuel pump when the ign key is on.
Then try to start the engine.
Then try to start the engine.

When jumper installed can you hear the pump run. Remove rear lower seat cushion and now exposed oval plate behind drivers seat to access top of tank. Pump should make a noise when ign key is on.
How did the engine run when parked, OK as normal power, etc?
When engine starts any success in giving it some gas pedal?
Any disconnected hoses, wires, etc from changing the wiper motor?
