Default This old man desperately needs help regarding tire size

Good day, Folks!
Here is my dilemma....
I am a 68 year old guy, trying to survive on a fixed income.
My car is a 2011 SE 4cyl. I've had it for about 10 years....it now has about 175k on the clock. It has been a terrific car!
Two days ago, I ran over something that ruined my right front tire. It took a while but I eventually got the donut spare mounted ( with the help of a young, strong delivery driver)
This morning I saw that the spare is now flat!!
Searching the local Craigslist, I found a seller that has two 235/55/R17 tires for a very good price. The current tires are 215/55/R17s.
Will the extra 20mm width cause any rubbing issues?
I sincerely appreciate y'all helping me out. Yea, I'm a transplanted Texan now living in the Memphis area. I still say "Y'all".
Thanks so much for any and all input.

Old guy at a young 68!

Never tried it personally. From reading other websites the tire size has been used on same year Camry and all seems well.

Given you are not the first person to go this road do a web search on "235/55/17 tires on 2011 Camry." to find a few hits. Toyotanation.com has hits. Skip over the statements of tire warranties.

There are websites that will input the cars year, make, model tire sizes (old and new size) and calculate the change in clearances from the cars structure.

The original rims seem to be 17 x 7 with a 50 mm offset. Don't know about the new rims. There are website that will show how to check rim width and offset. Offset matters as it shifts the tire in or out on the cars axle hub. Assuming same rim width and offset the change in clearances are listed at the website below. Seems to be OK.

https://www.wheel-size.com/calc/?whe...cl=50mm&sr=0mm

An issue is having two different size tires on the car. Obviously pair the tires up front or rear. Rear might be better as they these tires don't move when turning. How two different sets of tires will handle don't know. Assume the difference will be nil.

Around here there are a LOT of used tired outlets and auto salvage yards that offer CHEAP used tires. Might do a web search on used tires and auto salvage yards in your area. Also try Craigslist.

Personally would be looking for a used tire of the same size just to keep things square. If one tire gets damaged then now looking at two sizes of tires not one.

For some cars I have picked up a full set of used factory alloy rims and with decent tires for $200 cash. If a tire problem I rotate one tire in. Here all tires and rims are the size so no need to be concerned where the replacement tires goes on the car..

Thanks so much, toyo.
I've read the thread at ToyotaNation..... it seems the wider tire will be ok. The poster said when he is backing up, he gets a slight amount of rub. I can live with that, for now anyway.
I'm so glad 2023 is here!! The last two days of '22 were not the greatest, LOL!!
Not only did I ruin a tire, the same day the charging port on my cell self-destructed. Then yesterday I broke my glasses.
I will post about the tires when I get some miles on them.
Thanks again for your help.
