What is the purpose of this part and where does it go?
Can someone please identify this piece marked in red in the photograph that has come loose from 'somewhere' behind the front drivers side wheel. It's below the brake fluid reservoir.
I have looked for an hour and can find no place within it's length (of about 4") to attach it anywhere on the frame.
Is it an overflow type hose or does it attach to something else (the rubber end)?.
Thank you.
or any help.
Thank you for replying, you have helped so much.
Just behind the front drivers wheel I found a hole on top part the metal body and that loose part I asked about 'seems' to just shove in there OK since it doesn't reach any other area with a hole. You will be correct in that it's some sort of a cylinder hose run-off hose thing.
It does seem that my Camry will be built to California emission standards. I found a site, put the vin in and got the information below which is only part of that page as it's a lot of info otherwise .....

After emailing an interior vehicle paint dealer online and using the vin # I was able to get my exact interior paint /vinyl color that way, so I'm happy about that.
About the rough idle, my new mechanic looked over the engine yesterday and couldn't find anything really wrong. He upped the revs a bit by 20-30, now they are around 950. He thought the engine then sounded 'happier'.
I did notice later that there was a little grey smoke coming out of the tailpipe for a few minutes today along with a few drops of water (which I've never seen before) and so called the mechanic. He said the smoke is because he upped the revs and the moisture means the
cats are working good'.
Certainly more power and control with the new transmission yet It still shakes in gear when stopped, and from what I've read over a few days, this is a very common problem with Camrys.
I can still find no hose leaks although the compression sleeve over the PCV valve hose is soft and sticky.
After spending hours on youTube I wondered if I should replace the PCV valve, check the sparks plugs even though they are only 6 months old, and maybe the EGR vacuum modulator (the hoses in tact but a little brittle) so I called the mechanic and he said that most of those parts 'could' be changed out but the signs usually pointing to them needing replacing are issues like misfires, starting the car and it stalls, or erratic revs (which I don't have, neither extra oil consumption or check engine light.
He thinks it's OK and I should be find driving it but if it has an issue I don't want it to create further bigger issues especially since I just spent a lot of money on the transmission, rear brakes, oil pump leak and having the oil pan gasket replaced (the old mechanic had put a new gasket in last year and it was found that the oil drip was from that gasket being put on with a corner warp.
Sorry for the long email.
I guess it's a process of elimination.
It's easy enough to just put the engine in neutral at a light and hope it causes no real damage.
