Hello,

I have now had two car stereo repairman help me and this thing STILL won't turn on and I'm very frustrated with something that looked very routine.
The only thing I can think of at this point is that the actual radio is broken. I plugged the old radio back in at one point to make sure I hadn't blown a fuse and it worked just fine.

I have a 1997 Camry with a standard tape deck only radio.
I bought a very modest JVC single din model radio (KD-X270BT) that doesn't even have a CD player - MP3 capability & radio is all I need.
So after the place I bought it from sent me the wrong harness....twice...I even took it into a car radio specialized shop today and the guy was more than willing to sell me $40 worth of connectors that I apparently needed and even answered my questions about installing it...but this damn thing still won't turn on.

Red = Red
Yellow = Yellow
Black = Black
Blue & Blue/White = Blue/White

The harness I bought has the speaker wires connect to a coax cable
The guy at the store put coax cables on like this:
Green & Purple = Radio Left Speaker Input
White & Gray = Radio Right Speaker Input

Since it wasn't working (and it was kind of giving a static humming sound when I switched the car on) I switched it to Left & Right colors instead since that's what the radio inputs say. I didn't think this would fix the radio not turning on, but the weird humming did stop so I assume this is correct?
Green & White = Left Speaker Input
Purple & Gray = Right Speaker Input

All the other wires coming out of the radio harness I was told were unnecessary and are securely taped up. There's nowhere for them to connect to on the other harness anyway. I also didn't solder the wires together but they are well entwined and wrapped in electrical tape.

Looking for any help I can get!

 

For the old radio, how many wiring harness plugs does it have and does it have a remote amplifier?

The audio shop installed coaxial cables that go to the speakers, why?

 

 

Thank you for your help, Ive attached a bunch of pictures to show what I have.
The harness with the coaxials built into the speaker wires is what fit the connector in my car so I didn't question the logic. I thought it also solved the problem of the one black cable coming from the car that doesn't fit anywhere in the new system, but nothing works.

 

Did the old radio work?

I am going to need to review the wiring diagram for the new radio. The old radio used a remote amp. This means the radio generated a low electrical power "speaker" signal which was sent to the amp. The amp then magnified this signal then sent it to the speakers.The old radio had 10 wires running to the amp. The amp itself has two 12v power wires running to it and the amp sends 12v to the radio to power it.

You state the white plug at the end of the chassis wiring harness is the same plug that goes into the old radio? If so post back with the colors of all that chassis wiring going to that plug.

Check the Radio No 1 and Radio No 2 fuses.
