Default Bend toe rod 2004 camry repair estimate $319

Hi,

I bought a 2004 Camry LE few months back. I took it to a garage to fix a transmission leak problem. The mechanic showed me a bend toe rod in the left rear. He told it might be from a rock/curb hit (previous owner- oops I missed this point while buying). He says that this can cause misalignment of wheel and increase tire wear. (Though I do not feel any steering problems ). He gave me this estimate a) new toe rod -144 b) labor - 105 c) wheel alignment - 70.

My questions are

a) Is this repair necessary?. I mean will the situationdeteriorate if un repaired ?
b) Is this estimate reasonable?

Thanks a lot

The issue would be abnormal tire wear. With the rod bent, the tire is no longer running straight but at a slight angle inwards at the front.

The rod is adjustable in length, might be able to lengthen it a little to compensate for the bend.

If you can find another rod, installation should be pretty straight for if you have a few tools. Something from a 2002-2006 car, try a junkyard.

Not up on the cost of a new part, the alignment cost is OK if for all 4 wheels.
