Default 2011 Base Camry need to add keyless entry

I recently bought a 2011 Base model Camry. Great car. However it did not come with a keyless entry system. It has electronic locks and the sort but I have been unable to find the factory brand keyless entry system to compare prices between that and an aftermarket keyless entry. Anyone have any ideas? Also, should I not go with a factory system but opt for aftermarket, any recommendations for a quality and well priced keyless entry system? I do not want a remote start since my Camry is a manual and an alarm is also unnecessary.

Thanks.

I actually have the same question, I couldn't find much on Google about it, Best Buy sells some generic units but there's no listing of what cars they support so was hoping someone else already knows of a good option.

Just looking for keyless locks and trunk pop on the remote.

Hey Shadowfox,

I went to Toyota and asked them. They were useless over the phone at least at the local toyota dealership, so it finally took me going in. They do not/will not put in factory or Toyota keyless entry systems. The dealership around me uses audiopage brand aftermarket equipment. They said it would cost me $399 installed, although I am not sure it this would operate the trunk or if an extra charge would be added. I had to cringe at that.

I called a few local car electronics shops. I had to options. One offered a DEI keyless entry from Directed Electronics for $159.99 installed for just keyless entry. The other offered a Viper (also from Directed Electronics but a more well known name) keyless entry model 211HV for $149.99 installed. I opted for the Viper because of the name. I had it installed just yesterday. To add in the trunk release would have been another $100 but I did not find it worth it. Since the base camry does not have an electronic trunk release they would have to add it in to make it work.

I have only driven my car home yesterday and have not really got to use the system much but so far it works great. It locks and unlocks from far away, the lights and horn blink/honk when you press lock or unlock twice as well as the dome light inside comes on. The doors lock when you start up the car and unlock when you turn it off. (I think some of these things were optional so just make sure you ask for that if you have it installed.) And the remotes are very small and lightweight.

You can find the unit online for $50 and could install yourself for cheaper if you know what you are doing. The one I bought and had installed has a lifetime warranty with the place I had it installed at so I opted to save myself some hassle and just let them do it for me. Trunk release would have been nice but not worth it. You can also have additional equipment, not sure what or how much so that pushing certain buttons on the remote would put the windows down.

Thanks for the info, I hadn't really had much luck either though I think if I choose one of the Viper/Bulldog cheapo solutions i'll probably just install it myself. I saw a you-tube video of the basic steps, it doesn't seem like it would be worth the $100 an hour most places would charge me to do anything.

Glad you hear yours is working, I may end up on the same route before too long, still weighing some options first.

Post here are my 2 cents

i did installed key less in my Camry 2011 base model my self
i think the brand i used is platinum not sure

open driver front door panel

go to the windows controller

take a tester light for dc ( One with earth and a tester light)

connect the earth to any good ground

and touch different wires at back of the clip.just push hard enough that tester end can touch wire end ( Don't remove the grip/plug from controller)

in my case purple with silver dots was for locking and brown with silver dots was for unlocking ( when you touch the wires you will see the action its doing. And on my new key less controller diagram it had white for lock and white with black was for unlock

keeping the plug for controller to the inside of the car remove driver side kick panel and feed these two wires from your new key less controller for locking n unlocking through the rubber grommet into the door . Remove the speaker for ease to check for cables from grommet in door ( use hanger straight it out tape both wires n feed through grommet take your time )

Extend the lock unlock wires from new connector cause they are not long enough and later you will have problem ( while positioning the controller short wires will now allow you to move it further under steering column)
add fair amount of length to both i used speaker wires didn't had any other wires at that time

strip little bit of wire after the controller and join lock wire from new key less to it and tape it similar for unlock . in may case purple w silver to white for lock and brown with silver to white n black for unlock.

we are done for work on door inside but don't put the panel back on until we test n confirm

next

Attach red wire to any empty spot on the fuse box under steering column add any fuse preferable 15A to empty spot
just test first the current flow side by using tester>
tester one end to earth other end to new fuse. one end the side on which the will allow to tester light up is where you will add red wire with
Just strip wire end of red and wrap around an put fuse in wrap only to one side of fuse from where current flows as tested using tester. just force fuse in gently.

In my case had three earth/ground wires one main one for lock one for unlock
black, yellow-and yellow-black
Attach yellow and yellow-black to main black and that black to any ground inside kick panel

now for connection to turn signal
my case from new key less wiring, two purple wires coming out of single purple
you have to open trunk and check for wires going to turn signal . i think dark green and yellow as i remember
yellow on left and green for right just check your both turn signals in trunk
there is a wire loom going from kick panel to the back just with the frame
remove the tape as close to the kick panel as possible keeping in mind you have to make connection

turn on your double indicator or emergency lights hazard lights or what ever you call them, take your tester one end to earth strip same color wire as u checked in trunk. connect other end of tester to stripped wire
your tester light should start blinking with the indicators. connect any one signal wire from new wiring to it and do simple for the other one tape them . extend if possible before making connection to them.

just tape any other left wires from new wiring
2011 Base Camry need to add keyless entry-20160429_160909.jpg
hook up new wiring grip/clip to the controller module form key less
push the new controller under steering column n zip tie ( make sure will not b hitting any thing)
push wires behind the cover under the steering n tape zip tie them secure
Test lock unlock from your remote n if lock perform lock n unlock perform unlock
check blinking turn signals with lock unlock action
and you are done

I DID NOT CONNECTED TRUNK WIRE CAUSE I THINK BASE MODELS DON'T HAVE A SOLENOID IN TRUNK
ONLY LOCK UNLOCK WILL WORK AS I HAVE DONE.

here is my wiring diagram from keyless

and here is my remote or keyless what ever

  1. The turn signals output from most eBay remote keyless entry units is +ve. Does that match 2010-2011 Camry trigger type?
  2. Mine has 2 separate turn signals outputs.
