i have a 1998 camry le and i know cars like the camrys idle high for a short timebut when i turn on my car its the loudest car in the parking lot idling at 2000 then to 1800 very slowly.eventually itl go down to 600 or so but i always have ppl telling me i need to get the car checked because its to loud.is it normal for my camry to be idling that high and that loud? if not whats the problem?

btw i have 157,000 miles

 

I would check the engine coolant temp sensor and maybe the intake air temp sensor if you have one. My car's cold idle is about 1200 rpm at 50-60 degrees so 2k sounds high.
