Default How do I increase gas mileage of my Toyota Camry?

I Bought a used 2001 Toyota Camry under the impression that it gives good gas mileage (about 24 mpg in city and 28 mpg on highways). However, I'm shocked to note that my camry gives about 17mpg in city. Does anyone know the cause and / or how to get this fixed.

It won't bring you from 17mpg to 24 mpg, but cheapest thing is to put enough air in your tires.

And develop a consistent method to fill up fuel tank, for mpg calculation, not trying to be insulting, btw.

Now, realistically. DO YOU HAVE TO HAVE A FIVE SEATER FAMILY SALOON? because if not, bite the bullet, clean her up and make smell good, sell, and buy 95-96 Civic, V-TECH engine, manual. You will have car you can't kill and solid around 45 mpg.

I have a 2012 toyota camry se 4 cyclinder. I noticed my average MPG is 15-18 city driving. If I'm driving to work 6 miles in distance, my avg MPG is 16. When I first bought the car, I feel like I was at least getting 20mpg. My car is in impeccable condition with only 55,000 miles. I changed the engine air filter Regularly, checked my air pressure in my tires and even had the fuel injectors cleaned. Does anyone have any suggestions. Would a tune up improve this. I checked my manual, it says to change the spark plugs at 130,000 miles or 144 months (12) years Any suggestions

How are you determining MPG?

18 mpg seems normal for city driving for this car. Would assume shorter drives equates to lower mileage. Fill the tank with gas and try some long distance freeway driving.

Make sure the temp gauge is getting to normal within a reasonable period of time.

Synthetic oil will gain some MPG and is suggested given this engines issues with the oil ring return holes in the piston plugging up.

Is the coolant level staying the same.
