idle problem
hey guys, i am stumped. 94 camry I4. Had problem of cold start stall. So i finally pulled throttle body off, removed and cleaned IAC valve which was sticking. Put it back together, new gaskets, new pcv valve and intake hose while i was at it. Great. Starts like a charm, no more cold stall. But the idle just isn't high enough. Factory service manual says 1300 -1500 cold rpm, i am getting 1000 - 1100 and its been in the teens here in new york. Definetly noticed better performance with car. No more rough idle at light in drive, etc. But it seems i should have higher rpms on cold start. Any suggestions? am a missing something? No codes coming up. Check all the common sensors and the values are within range. Could this be throttle position sensor, or is my IAC bad and i just managed to make it work a little better.
Thanks
Thanks
Hopefully your A/C works and you have a tach.
Do this, with the car fully warmed up, take note what your idle is then turn a/c on you should visually check to make sure the compressor is turning. Check idle now, if it is lower you will need a new IAC if it is the same or higher it is good. Did you clean all the carbon off the throttle plate and bore? Check your pvc to make sure it is clean and the plunger moves freely.

thanks tim, as i said in my post new pcv valve and i removed the whole throttle body. That sucker is cleaner than when i bought the car. there is some else going on here. I have read other posts in other forums where people have had the same exact issue. Claimed to clean it and problem comes back. I have to check vacuum lines. I noticed how hard the pcv one was and some of the other ones look like they could benefit. Thats what i am in the process of doing. But before i get too optimistic I just wanted to ask one more time if anyone in the forum had any luck. Again, i noticed an improvement. It doesn't stall in cold anymore, which was my complaint. But something else is off. I tested the iac when it was off with voltage and the valve open and closed. The resitance was within normal range. And i was getting spec voltage from the ecu lines isco + b, iscc+b. So i know the IAC/ISC circuit is good.
I'll keep you posted when i change some hoses.
Thanks again I

Thanks again I
I had the same problem on another brand. The last thing I replaced was the fuel filter and the sucker started running slick as a button. I recently bought a 93 Camry LE I4 and the fuel filter was one of the first things I replaced. You could dump rust from both ends of the old filter. I doubt they get replaced as they should because they're hidden on the fender well underneath the air filter housing.
