Looking to buy a '99 Solara...any advice?
I'm looking to buy a 1999 Toyota Solara with 105,200 miles on it. VERY clean and well kept! The interior is IMPECCABLE!! Engine looks and runs GREAT with smooth, steady acceleration, though it needs a new engine mount and power steering and transmission fluids need to be changed. Some minor body damage on the right side, but not too noticeable and won't really affect my decision. Needs new brake pads and rotors (mildly warped) for all 4 axles and the tires appear to have between 6/32nd's to 9/32nd's of tread left (good for say, another 6 months to a year's worth of driving, provided I don't skid or spin the wheels). Hey, for 105,200 miles, minor things like these are to be expected.
Much of these repairs I can do on my own for the most part, but what really concerns me is a blinking airbag light on the dash that didn't seem to go away during my test drive. I was told that most likely it's just a bad sensor and doesn't affect the overall safety, reliability or performance of the vehicle (which it did NOT), and that the car should continue to run fine....but will it? What if it's something more than just a simple little sensor replacement or loose connection? What if I have to replace the entire computer and have it cost me more than $500??
Originally the seller was asking for $5K but I talked him down to $4,400.
I have until this Friday 4/30 to make my decision.
Is it worth it?
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated! THANKS!!!
