New Clutch or Adjustment?

New Clutch or Adjustment?
Hi - I have a 95 Camry with 248,000 miles. Original clutch, 4 cyl, 5 speed manual transmission.
Lately the engine has been "winding out" when I shift gearsand give it too much gas. How can I tell if I need a new clutch or just an adjustment. Or is this something more involved with the transmission? If I start off too fast it happens as well. I can always stop it from "winding out" by letting off the gas or downshifting and easing up on the gas.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Kev

RE: New Clutch or Adjustment?
The clutch system itself would have limted adjustment. Make sure when the clutch pedal is released there is some play in the clutch release fork and slave cylinder push rod. This meams the clutch is fully released.
If fully released the issue could be the clutch diaphram is weak, worn clutch plate, etc.

RE: New Clutch or Adjustment?
I say it's probabley the cluch. this car has a hydraulic linkage and really connot be adjusted. Usually if there is a problem with the linkage it is manifested by the transmission not disengaging (gears are tough to shift or the cluch slowly engages itself at a stop light.)
What you describe sounds like typical cluch slippng issues. hey, you got your moneys worth out of it with 248,000 miles.
