Seatbelt retracts slowly or dont at all

hey, i have a 98 LE and ive been having problems with the two fron seatbelts they wont retract, i have to acctually push them in. i can live with it but its anoying . both front seatbelts either dont retract or retract slowly. and i often shut the door on the seat bely because they dangle out when i open it. what can i do.

I have never had much luck getting older seat belts to retract the way they did when the car was new. I think dirt and weak retraction springs are most of the problem. You'll have to remove the interior trim and gain access to the spool, then use compressed air to clean out dirt and dust build up. I would be carefulusingany oil as I think the mechanism was never intended tohave oil in it because of the possibility of deteriorating the belt. Some times the belt folds as it retracts and that may be causing the binding.

yeah same here.. but only my driver side seat belt does that.. it make me wanna rip it out and put a brand new on in its place..

yeah thanks ill try cleaning it with compressed air because i dont really want to temper with it since its kind of important but ill live. thanks

I just took one apart and cleaned it and it now works ok. I then mentioned it to my service manager and he said the next time that happens they will fix it no charge.

You might try that route.
