Exclamation Srs light on - code b1787

Hello All. 2004 XLE. 2.4L.
Red SRS light is on constantly, the other passenger indicator near the center clock shows air bag OFF (with or without a front rh passenger). No accidents or bag deployment. Some time back, when a front passenger sat in the seat, the passenger air bag light would cycle between on and off. Regarding this code, is a special dealer tool required to re-calibrate the seat weight sensing or can I work with jumping terminals to initialize? I have a basic scanner with manufacturer add-ons and don't know if this will get me there. Thank you to anyone who has dealt with this before. I pull the seat out and cleaned all the connections and contacts as i know this sometimes is an issue.

Therefore, when DTC B1787 is output, first perform the zero point calibration and sensitivity check.

Did the car receive any impacts in the rear LH area? Impact may not have been great enough to trigger the airbag system.

Was the front RH seat subject to a strong impact?

The above issues can set this code.

Other reasons are:

Front seat assembly RH malfunction

Occupant classification ECU malfunction

Occupant classification sensor rear LH detects heavy load.

If the issue was an impact and not one of the listed other reasons above then Toyota states to perform the zero point calibration AND sensitivity checks.

The internet has lots of videos and thread about how to do these checks.

Zero calibration resets the steering wheel centered location to the computer. The steering wheel has a sensor that detects steering wheel position.

For zero point calibration suggest following the guidance of such posts as the one below.

For the occupant classification sensor check you need to place a specified weight on the seat and then reset the computer.

If it’s a front seat assembly or ECU malfunction then it may be a dealer situation.

If you are removing an airbag system connections make sure the ign key is off or better yet the battery disconnected and wait 90 seconds. This will turn off the airbag system. Its not a matter of the airbag system going off but disconnected wiring triggering a trouble code that needs to be cleared with a ODBII scanner having Toyota SRS capability.
